Need to Know

There is Potosi Campground and Picnic Area opposite the start of the trail on South Willow Creek Rd.

Description

This motorized singletrack connects South Willow Creek Rd with Lake Abro Trail and its related trail system. While some motorized singletrack in the tobacco roots can be brutally loose and rocky, this is one of the more pleasant and rideable trails, and doesn't feel like it's just for dirt bikes. The trail can be ridden in either direction and be broken up into 3 sections:

The first hill:
From the bottom at South Willow Creek Rd, the first hill is the steepest and the trail is narrow, sandy, and has many tight switchbacks. This section is relatively non-technical if you are coming down, but going up will certainly require lots of legs and lungs. Don't be surprised if you end up pushing your bike for some of the ascent. There are trees on this section, but they are fairly scattered, meaning you get pretty good views looking out over the valley, especially from the top.

The long traverse:
This is the most technical and difficult part of the trail, despite having a net elevation gain of effectively zero. The trail spends more time in the trees and becomes rocky, undulating and slow to travel through. It feels more like a back country trail, and also has some small stream crossings.

The second hill:
Not as steep or as long as the first hill, but it has its moments. Passes through a meadow where there is a gate and then a connector trail heading West. The trail crosses through some more trees then ends at a large meadow at the junction with Abro Lake Trail and Park Trail. There are some very nice views from both of these meadows.
