Need to Know
The main access point to this trail is via Prickly Peak Road #164. This "road" is rougher than the loop trail and most users will park at the bottom of this road 5 miles down the valley. It is a strenuous climb on a mountain bike to climb the road, and the descent is not very fast due to how rocky it is. Trail provides access to Elk Park, Moose Creek, Crow Creek, the Tizer Lakes, as well as some lesser known trails.
Description
Tizer Basin Loop Trail is a popular ATV trail that does a loop of Bullock Hill (sometimes called the Bullock Hill Loop Trail). Overall the trail is moderately hilly with a variable surface - some parts are quite rocky, and other parts are more sand, dirt and ruts. Some parts of the trail can be quite wet and muddy in the early season.
Although much of the trail is forested, it does pass through several large alpine meadows where you can get some nice views of the surrounding mountains. The best spot for this is on the western flank of Bullock hill near the apex of the loop, just north of the main trail junction.
Another site to check out is the Tizer Guard Station on the Southeastern corner of the loop, which is a Forest Service Cabin set in a picturesque meadow. The inside is closed to the public, but it's worth checking out just cause it's so darn cute.
On the eastern side of the loop there is a singletrack trail called the Golden Age Cuttoff Trail that is worth taking as it is more direct and reduces some elevation.
