Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park and Campground is open all year round. Water is available May 1 to September 30. The Park is south facing, and the trails often remain snow free later in the fall, and dry out faster in the Spring compared to other riding areas.
The Park is located on Montana Hwy 2, 15 miles east of Whitehall or 19 miles west of Three Forks.
Description
A scenic trail that mostly travels across the grassland on the lower slopes of the Park. This trail is perfect for people who want a shorter and easier ride, as it is the only trail that doesn't contain any gut-busting gradients, or significant technical features. The very western section of the trail is doubletrack, and leads down to Montana Highway 2, where there is a parking area next to the Jefferson River, and like the name suggests, access to fishing. Many will skip this last section and either return the same way back to the campground, or head up the hill on the
DanMor Mine Trail to
Cave Gulch Trail, where they can connect to
Middle View Trail to the top of the park, or make a short fun loop with a steeper descent back to the campground.
