Need to Know
Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park and Campground is open all year round. Water is available May 1 to September 30. The Park is south facing, and the trails often remain snow free later in the fall, and dry out faster in the Spring compared to other riding areas.
The Park is located on Montana Hwy 2, 15 miles east of Whitehall or 19 miles west of Three Forks.
Description
The Middle View Trail connects the
Eastside Trail at the top of the park, with the middle section of
Cave Gulch Trail. Like most of the trails at The Caverns, the views of the valley and the adjacent hills are fantastic. Out of the 3 trails that connect to the top of the Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, the Middle View Trail is the best one for ascending because overall it is the smoothest and least technical. In saying this, it's still not an easy ascent as it has a very sustained gradient, some rather tight switchbacks, and a few technical features that will challenge intermediate riders. After riding up the trail you can choose to descend the East Side Trail or
Cave Gulch.
This trail can also be a fun descent. The most challenging aspect will be making it around the tighter switchbacks. The easiest access to the top of the trail is via the access Rd.
