Overview
The easiest way to sample one of American Forks best downhill segments;
Mud Springs #173. As you ride north along
Ridge Trail #157 don't forget to look back at the amazing views of Mount Timpanogos. It takes some climbing and XC riding for the first half of this ride, but once you drop into
Mud Springs #173 it is an awesome downhill.
Need to Know
Use a shuttle vehicle or have someone drop you off at the Alpine Summit Parking Lot and Trailhead; If you plan to park there, get there early as the lot is small and fills up quickly.
Description
Use a shuttle vehicle or have someone drop you off at the Alpine Summit Parking Lot and Trailhead; cross the road and ride north along
Ridge Trail #157 at the fork of the
Alpine Ridge Connector stay right (east) to stay on
Ridge Trail #157. The views of Mount Timpanogos are incredible.
Stay right at the
Pine Hollow #47 turnoff. It takes some climbing and XC riding for the first half of this ride. Don't expect it to all be downhill since you 'shuttled' but once you drop into
Mud Springs #173 it is an awesome downhill.
Use a bell to alert hikers and wildlife. Listen for motorcycles as they are legal to ride in A.F. canyon. At the
Tibble Fork #41 stay straight to stay on the
Mud Springs #173 trail. Finish just above Tibble Fork Reservoir. Take a dip if it's hot, or use the restroom if needed, and then cruse down AF Canyon road (SR-144) back to the junction with Alpine Scenic Highway (SR-92).
