Overview

Description from the race website butte100.com/
Welcome to the most difficult mountain bike race in the country: The Butte 100. The Butte 100 race weekend consists of three individual races, a 100 mile, 50 mile and the Sorini 25, taking place atop the Continental Divide just outside of Butte, Montana. The race has grown from a small group of dedicated locals on a gravel road, to world-class athletes competing on world-class trails. With outstanding partnerships with the USFS, BLM, community of Butte, our generous sponsors, and the "neon army" of volunteers, the Butte 100 races continue to provide the best mountain bike racing experience possible. Thanks for visiting.

Description

The Sorini 25 is the shortest race of the Butte 100 Races, however it also has some of the best sections of trail, including 9 miles of epic Continental Divide Trail (CDT). This variation of course was changed to in 2023 with permission from the forest service that allowed more riders on the CDT. The new course is a loop instead of an out and back. Riders are super happy that they no longer have to ride back up Sketchy Twotrack.

25 Mile Course at a glance:

29.2 total miles
4,200 ft. elevation gain
2 Aid Stations- Numbered #7 and #10 (according to 100-mile course)

Locals might ask where this photo was taken, but I was on the trail and if I was to turn the camera a little to the left, you would see the Blacktail Trailhead Parking Lot barely 200 feet away.

Riding Thompson Park on a fat tire bike. The Chimney Trail is the easiest way to get between the Milwaukee Railroad and the top of the park.

A mountain bike rider rides up the Blacktail Access Trail. Many sections like this one are like doubletrack, and the terrain is more open than the Blacktail Loop.

A lovely viewpoint from the Continental Divide looking at the Highland Mountains in the distance.
