Montana Tech Open Space Park is a non-motorized multi-use trail system. There are two main Parking Areas, one at the top (North) of the park on Orofino Gulch Rd, and one at the Bottom (South) of the park at the end of W Park St. There are no facilities such as bathrooms or water available at the Park.

Big Butte Loop for the most part is a relatively wide and easy trail that traverses around the middle of the M-Hill. Starting and finishing from the North Parking Lot, it provides great views of town and is very popular with hikers and bikers alike. The exact route of the Big Butte Loop gets a little confusing around the southern side, where there is multiple possible ways to go, but no official way marked. This trail has been mapped with the most direct route, which does include a short steep section where weaker riders may struggle to ride up, and beginners may struggle to ride down. This section can be bypassed by taking the Big Butte Connector Trail slightly higher up.
