Backcountry park, usually only open/rideable during the summer.
One Way Only: This is designated as a directional trail.
Description
Before starting down Bail Out you'll want to ride just a little farther on the
Cheat Mountain Ridge Trail so you can go up into the fire tower and enjoy the 360 degree views. Back track 100 feet and start down Bail Out.
The top is loamy pine forest and is littered with roots as you would expect. Then it starts to get steeper and faster. Some fun technical turns, jumps, and a shoot lead you into the "mile long rock garden." Stay slightly left of center here and try to carry your speed as you'll need it to make it through without dabbing.
It doesn't get easier though. The trail continues to meander down but it's not steep, just riddled with awkward rocks and roots, kinda like riding down an eroded stream bed. There's lots of line choice and plenty of opportunity to link moves together and get in the flow.
Once you cross the wooden bridge you're almost at the bottom. Gain speed here in flat flowy section as you'll need it for the final uphill rock garden.
Bail Out drops out on the east side of Shavers Lake. You can follow
Shavers Lake Trail either way you want here, but most go counter clockwise back around to the lift.
