Overview
Solid marathon length ride that gives a nice sampling of everything San Felasco has to offer. Most of this route is of moderate difficulty for the area, but it does cover portions of
Conquistador and all of
Hidden Rise, which are among the more difficult trails in the park.
Description
Most of the difficulty of this ride arises from the distance, which can be particularly tough during the summer. There are several log piles on the route, but all are nicely constructed and can easily be avoided if you prefer. The route is almost exclusively singletrack, with the only exception being a short section on powerline.
The surface is classic San Felasco: mostly hard-packed dirt with some sections of sand and pine litter depending on the time of year. Recently, wild boar have been rooting in some of the more remote sections, but disturbances to the trail are usually patched quickly. Navigation is generally straightforward, and nearly all intersections in the park are well signposted. You're likely to see white tail deer all through San Felasco. This route will also take you through classic north florida ecology: hardwood hammock, pine forests, swamps, streams, and human-cleared praries.
