Description

This is the Arizona Trail section that bypasses the Four Peaks Wilderness where bikes aren't allowed. This section is almost entirely doubletrack desert roads. If completing the entire section, you'll find limited water available depending on the time of year. The Salt River is a reliable place to stock up.

The start of the section is going east on paved road on N Bush Hwy. Take care on the portions with limited shoulder space. Exiting the highway, the trail enters The Rolls OHV area after 4.5 miles. Make sure you have a good GPS as there are a lot of interconnecting roads in the OHV area.

Fast desert road will take you across the OHV area to Four Peaks Rd ascending along the edge of the Wilderness Area. There are some steep sustained climbs through this area. The section ends where the bike bypass joins the hiking trail.

The bypass route does get updated as trails change. Check the AZTrail.org for the most recent updates.
