Chimney serves as the lower connector between Stone Cutter's Hollow and Gateway, and has a few switchbacks as it gradually climbs/descends through Stone Cutter's Hollow. As of March 2024, the recently opened upper section serves as connection between Stone Cutters Hollow and the ridge line trail between Gateway and McDonald Hollow. The climb is at a mostly mellow grade, and features few obstacles. It is the easiest way to climb to the top of Brush Mountain from the town of Blacksburg.
