Overview

This section is part of the GDMBR. This is very much a bikepacking-friendly place if looking for a shorter ride or need to hunker down. Water access is scarce so be sure to stock up in Vallecitos. This is a very dry area so be safe with fire.

Need to Know

Only water access at Rio Vallecitos.

Description

Start at FR106 in Vallecitos. After one mile, turn left onto Forest Service Rd 44 (FSR44 / County Road 247). Continue on this road for two miles then take a slight left onto County Rd 247. Stay on County Road 247 until you finally reach El Rito.

This route isn't too technical nor very steep. The descent after Valle Grande Peak is really excellent. Perfect gravel texture and not too chunky at all. This route is very doable on a gravel bike. It may get sandy and rough about one mile before El Rito.
