Overview

The singletrack portion of this trail is seldom used, so you'll be glad you downloaded the GPX track for your GPS device. Some sections of the trail are ambiguous, but if you follow the GPS track or MTB Project mobile app, you'll stay on target.

Need to Know

Restrooms available at Gore Pass Bike Trailhead.

Description

The loop begins at Gore Pass Bike Trailhead, and continues south on FSR270 for 3.0 miles until you come to a barbed wire fence across the road. You may pass through, closing the barbed wire fence behind you. You'll continue on the dirt road for another 1.4 miles until you come to another barbed wire fence, which you'll close behind you again.

Cross over Highway 134, and enter the Shoe And Stocking Trail #1216.1. The singletrack portion of Shoe And Stocking Trail #1216.1 is about 3.7 miles. IMPORTANT: after riding about 0.25 miles on the singletrack, you'll need to leave the well-worn, "main" trail, and turn left - crossing over the creek. The trail is not obvious, but there is a brown fiberglass sign with a bike sticker on it. That's the cue to cross left over the creek, and continue left through the valley.

You'll eventually make it to Shoe and Stocking Creek, where some trail maintenance has just been completed as of August 2020. Brush cut down, trees trimmed or removed, etc. Follow the GPS track and you'll be fine.

The singletrack trail ends as you arrive at Forest Service Road 225. You can continue back to Gore Pass Bike Trailhead if that was your starting point, or take a short detour (0.65 miles one-way) on Forest Service Road 206 to view the 1880's two story stagecoach stop at Rock Creek Station.
