Description

The trail begins as a peaceful mellow climb through some beautiful Aspens, making you think you're in for a nice relaxing ride. It's not long before you dip down to a creek, cross a bridge, and begin the serious part of the climb. The trail is smooth enough to ride for a mile or so before it transitions to a dense Pine forest, which is where the big rocks begin to litter the trail. There's no switchbacks, the trail just continues to climb straight up the mountain at a very steep grade (much of it strewn with large rocks) until you hit the meadow at the top that has been cleared to allow the area's bighorn sheep to graze. There's a strange path through the barbed-wire fence that requires you to maneuver your bike through. Once you get through this, the trail meanders down to Lost Park Rd.

Optional extension: Turn this ride into a nice, long lollipop by heading East on Lost Park Rd. to the Lost Park trailhead. From here take the Brookside McCurdy Trail over to the Colorado Trail, and continue West to the Long Gulch trailhead. Then head back to Nate Stultz trail on Lost Park Rd.

Meadow at the top, just beyond the awkward slot in the fence you have to get through with your bike.
