Need to Know
Trail signs are well marked with wooden signs. Parking is accessible at Boat Dock Rd and Cove Hollow Rd. This trail is officially managed by the Forest Service but is more often maintained by a few volunteers in the area. Trees come down after storms, and are not always dealt with very fast and sections of trail can wash out after big storms. Bringing a handsaw is always recommended, and well performed maintenance makes a difference for all riders. If you'd like to get involved with aiding in maintaining this and other trails of the area, contact SMBA at shawneemtb@gmail.com
Description
This ~1-mile loop takes you up and onto the bluff. The southern-facing aspect takes you through a typical hilltop community and sandstone slick rock interspersed with moss and lichen. The northern side of the horse shoe bluff is a classic shady holler following a creek drainage.
Though possible in both directions, climbing from the southern point and descending the northern section may be more enjoyable.
Hike-a-bike up through a short rocky drainage from the southern trail sign until trail smooths out, keep climbing to gain the slick rock section hugging the contour of the cliff. Climb further till the summit and enjoy some steep, fast downhill rough and rowdiness until rejoining
Cove Hollow Trail #385 at the creek crossing. This will test your rig, make sure it's in good order.
