Family Friendly Snuffleupagus is nice and gentle.

For 2020, the Motts Run Marina is closed so parking is very limited.

Overview

Parts of the trail are along the reservoir. There are a couple of spots between miles 1 and 4 where you can stop and appreciate the views of the water.

Description

For this route, I went south away from Snuffleupagus. It starts off pretty tight and you don't get too much speed going. After about 0.75 miles, you start to see the reservoir. The trail opens up into a fire road and you'll go towards the water treatment plant. Right before you get there, you'll see where it turns back into singletrack and this is where the fun begins.

This is where the fast and flowy begins. Tons of ups and downs. Some rock gardens. Roots. Back to fast. Back to the rock gardens and roots and to fast all over again. You'll see some bridges but as of this writing those bridges have not been completed. Never fear though, there have been carve outs where you'll be able to cross the ravines and get back on trail. There are a couple of these but they are easy to see.

If at any point you come to forks in the trail, my recommendation is to stay to the right. There will be some parts of the trail especially when you get four miles in where you may have to hike-a-bike across some of the creek. You'll definitely have to do this when you finally get to the Motts Extension Trail. The bridges haven't even been started here yet but that's a small price to pay for this trail.

Once you are on the Motts Extension Trail (five miles in) you'll take that to Snuffleupagus and make your way back to the parking area.

Road 4/1/2024. So good flow but (in my opinion) mostly grinding. I left parking lot and went clockwise. 2 creek crossing which I didn't expect. — 11h 30m
