Need to Know

Dawson Forest is closed to mountain bikers and equestrians the first week in August. Riding is not allowed during firearms deer hunting days and not before 10:00 a.m. during deer archery and spring turkey hunting days or anytime the main gate is closed.

$7 daily per person or $75 annual pass required

Description

Clark Road is a wide gravel road (suitable for passenger cars) through the portion of Dawson Forest that is south of the Etowah River. It roughly parallels the Orange Trail, and there are multiple points along the route where you can easily access this trail.

A number of routes: Blue Trail (South), Railroad Road, Green Trail, and Mill Road all will take you down to the Etowah River. But if you're trying to cross the river to make a big forest road loop, you'll have to wait for a drought and try your luck at the ford near where Railroad Road ends at the river. There is an old bridge, but it looks like it has been out of service for several decades.
