“A four wheel drive road connecting the Howard Valley and Lake Rotoroa.
”
Sandflies are voracious in this area, especially at lower elevations
Description
Riding this road is best from the Howard Valley end as the descent to Lake Rotoroa is a lot steeper. Much of the trail is through native beech forest with some farmland lower down on the Howard side. Although it is a legal road it is not maintained by the local council, but as it is used to access the main power transmission lines it seems that it may be Transpower who keep it maintained.
There are some creeks for water on the Howard side, but shouldn't be relied upon. The track tops out at about 980 metres so be prepared for cool conditions at the top.
