Description

You start off on a paved road in Shushi then turn off on a dirt road and pass through Karintak Village. The route follows dirt roads that are seldom traveled by vehicles once you leave Karintak. You'll be climbing after Karintak and enter the denser forest after the high point. There is a spring and a picnic area as you start to descend towards Avetaranots. Summer can bring hot weather so the shade of the trees and the spring make for a nice resting area.

In Avetaranots there is an interesting old Convent and Church that are certainly worth a visit.

Note: There are two canyons that this route avoids. One is Hunot Canyon near Shushi and the other is Sargsashen near Karmir Shuka. Both are very beautiful but we thought they would be much too challenging for the average mountain biker. If you are an advanced rider looking for a challenge you can find these segments on hiking project.

Keep an eye out for the Janapar Trail blue and white blazes and signs along the route.
