Need to Know

Mountwood Park's Pumphouse Trail was made possible through the McKee Foods (Little Debbie Snacks) Outdoor Happiness Movement (OH!) grant for West Virginia, along with generous help from Mountwood Park staff, The Chemours Company volunteers and the River Valley Mountain Bike Association. Sustainable trail design and excavator work was done by Zach Adams and Appalachian Dirt, with special thanks to Lona for moral and supervisory support.

Description

The Pumphouse Trail is an intermediate "flow-style" trail that descends off Gary's Grind and finishes at the parking area at the bottom of the hill on Volcano Road. It is road accessible at either end and may be shuttled. Numerous fun and technical features make this trail enjoyable and challenging in either direction, and the ruins and relics of the 19th century oil-boom era found along this route also make for a great history lesson. This is a trail that should be appreciated again and again.
