This trail comes very close to the BLM parcel boundary in two places (the east switchback and the last switchback near the trailhead). Please respect private property and stay on the trail.
Description
This new addition to the
Schoolhouse Gulch Trail network for 2019 includes some great hand-cut singletrack with several fun switchbacks thrown in the mix. The trail was developed by the Garden Valley Wolverines on Wheels MTB club in cooperation with the BLM.
The trail is best ridden by accessing the upper end from the original
Schoolhouse Gulch Trail and crossing the creek (easily rideable except for a few weeks during Spring runoff). The trail climbs the drainage to the east boundary of the BLM parcel, then switches back to the right. Please don't continue east onto the private land.
From the switchback, the trail follows a long-abandoned logging roadbed, traversing a north-facing slope with enough trees and brush on the old road to give that singletrack feel. Eventually the trail veers left off of the old roadbed onto hand-cut singletrack, then breaks from the trees onto an open slope just above the highway.
Enjoy the switchbacks as the trail works its way down the slope and then cross the creek to finish back at the trailhead.
