“A fun way to Loop Oil Well Flats.”— Vance Fast
Once you reach Unconformity again, follow it around the mountain to the doubletrack road. But be warned—this side of Unconformity is rocky, tight turns and is full of obstacles all the way until you hit the fire road. Follow the fire road south until you see Island in the Sky on the east, and prepare to climb. The climb is not very technical but it is long and steep. The theme changes on top of the butte to be a massive rock garden which is better run at higher speeds (in my opinion).
Once on top, enjoy the views and endless rock garden of the butte and take a picture where everyone else does—the spot is obvious. Finish this trail up and head west on Fire Canyon which is a blue rated. Fire Canyon has plenty of obstacles, but you have to choose to do them and most can be avoided if you wish. This trail should be followed all the way down to Anticline where the moderately rocky feel with better jumps comes back in.
This will take you to the new trail TBD which is a riot. Needless to say, enjoy the constant jumps and small drops with banked corners all the way down. Trust me—it will make the climb worth it. Cross the wooden bridge hit the blacktop and head north back to the parking lot and you're finished.
Park looped and fun achieved in about 1 hour 15 min.
