Need to Know

Because there are many different recreational uses for this popular trail, it is recommended to always use common courtesy and be aware. All users should generally keep right so others may pass, much like a roadway. Fast approaching bikers often will let slower walkers, hikers, runners, and bikers know that they are approaching and will be passing. Since the trail intersects with many roads, users must also obey all traffic signage.

If you are traveling through the city of Waterville on this trail, follow the street signs to reconnect.

Permits are needed for snowmobiling and horseback riding on this trail.

All pets must be leashed. All pet waste and garbage must be packed out.

Description

Sakatah Singing Hills Trail is a very popular trail that was developed over an old railroad line. It is a multi-use, paved trail that is suitable for many recreational activities including hiking, walking, running, horseback riding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling, depending on seasonal conditions. It has multiple access points and rest stops along its route from Mankato to Faribault. The trail also runs through Sakatah Lake State Park.

Sakatah Singing Hills Trail takes users through prairie, farmland, forest, and near lakes and rivers. There is a lot of diversity along the route. The portion that runs through Sakatah Lake State Park is particularly beautiful, shaded, and cool in the summer.
