Overview

This loop connects fun, flowy Spartan trails with some Little Rainbow on the way back.

Description

Park at the CR110/Little Rainbow trailhead. Start your ride by looking the opposite way of the trail kiosk, this is where Spartan West trail starts. After a short initial section, cross the road (CR110) and continue on Spartan West. This section is all gentle ups and downs. Enjoy the awesome views to the west of the Sawatch mountains to the west of Salida.

Soon you'll approach a cell tower and cross a dirt road. After a small rise, the trail continues to flow down, crossing several arroyos, until it flattens out when you get to CR110. You're 1.5 miles into this ride.

Cross the road and start Spartan East. This trail slowly climbs its way to Little Rainbow. Spartan East is 1.7 miles long and incorporates some twisty sections through the pinion trees with some open sections on the mesas. Be aware of some soft gravel creek crossings.

At the intersection with Little Rainbow, turn right. This last section of 2.5 miles of singletrack is a string of ups and downs, with the ups possibly getting a bit frustrating after a while. Luckily right at that moment, the trail tends to level off just before you get to the intersection with Skull.

Continue straight on Little Rainbow and soon the parking lot will be in sight. This is some of the easier riding in Salida, but because of the extended ups on Little Rainbow this is still considered a 'blue' ride for most.
