E-Bikes Unknown

Features -none-

Family Friendly Multi-use trails. Plenty of rocky and sandy singletrack to decide if this is the sport for you.

Overview

Great riding and awesome views, this loop is ideal for beginners and explorers. Expect some downhill and technical areas but overall mostly level and lots of fun.

Description

Heading clockwise and westbound is all uphill however only at a 2% incline until you reach the Butte volcano. This makes it a great place for MTB beginners or as a recovery ride. Closer to the volcanoes, there's moderate to steep inclines though plenty of non-aggressive downhills to enjoy the views.

Some trails are shared with backpackers though it's rare. The local land management department is usually good at making sure things are safe, otherwise, they don't bother visitors. Around the volcanoes, some sections are steep (>10% grade) with loose, rocky terrain. These features are rare though. There are minimal sand pits and no need to worry about goat heads.

Overall, this loop uses a combination of singletrack and doubletrack, multi-use trails with a few rock gardens, a few hops and a few natural jumps. The distance is worth it with great petroglyph/volcano views making this a fun Northwest Albuquerque trail option. This is just one possible way to ride the trails here, there are more route options and many more adventures to be had.

Petroglyph National Monument offers spectacular views and the trails around the monument offer some interesting, albeit short, ride terrain. The starting point for this ride is unmarked, and there is no trail parking or official trail-head. The terrain is benign and un-interesting, until the PNM. Rather, ride the Petroglyph from the appropriate trail-head accessed from Atrisco Vista Blvd near Double Eagle Airport. Mar 2, 2019
