The land is closed during deer firearms seasons (see hunting regulations
here). During deer archery and turkey season, the land is closed until after 10:00 a.m.
You'll need a GA hunting or fishing license to use the property at any time, even if you're not hunting. Any license or permit can be purchased
here.
Description
Extremely steep, rooty, and rocky. Know your limits. Medical help is a long ways off. The trail officially dead ends at the WMA property line, but if you have permission from the private land owner and climb until it intersects a gravel road, it offers a connection to many miles of additional trail, including the full climb to the top of Sugar Hill (by making a right at the road), or to the
Iron Belt Railroad Trail (by making a left at the road).
If you are attempting the Sugar Hill Climb, bring world class technical skills or be prepared to hike-a-bike. As of September 2022, no one has successfully ridden up this beast. If you can make it past the first 150 yards and its 30%+ grade section, the trail levels off a bit before pitching up again. If you make it, please post your success!
Check GPS or the
MTB Project mobile app often as the trail is not well-marked and it's easy to miss. Maintenance is minimal.
