Need to Know
This is a multi-use road so in the summer when it is busy there's lots of vehicles on the road. Recommended to ride in the off season and not during the holiday weekends. Goose Lake is high elevation so it's recommended having some kind of jacket at the top. The air can be thin at the high altitudes so if coming from a lower elevation pace yourself and maybe bring some oxygen.
Description
The road begins at the Goose Lake trailhead just one mile east past the heart of Red River. Take the Goose Lake Road 486 all the way to Goose Lake. You don't take any of the conjoining roads, just stay on 486 all the way up.
The road can be extremely steep and rough in places so hike-a-biking will be somewhat common place on this trail. Highly recommended having a solid mountain bike that you can trust because the descent is lightning fast and extremely technical in places.
The descent, albeit very technical, is one of the most exhilarating descents in the whole Red River area offering everything from flowy sections, rock gardens, straight smooth areas, opportunities to catch air and more. Excellent bikepacking with ample opportunities for wild camping.
