Overview

This system of trails are multi-use and well signed as directional. Tons of fun with easy to follow signs and many add-on loops to make a ride a little longer if you want.

Need to Know

There are nice restrooms and a water station across County Hwy 103 at the Rune Stone County Park visitor center.

Description

As you set out on the well-signed trails from the new parking lot/kiosk, you'll see the directional arrows which lead you on a winding lakeside adventure in the woods.

This newer trail system is well built and very smooth with not too much up or too much down, just tons of fun! Most of the trail system goes through heavily wooded tree sections but you'll find that there are several views of Eng Lake, some open meadow areas and even a bench or two to take a break at.

You'll also come across a few wooden bike features including a teeter-totter, banked turns and narrow balance beams. You can't miss the correct direction of travel. The trails are new, very fun, and purposely built for mountain biking.

There are several miles of completed trails and many more miles proposed. There are many loops that you can keep adding on to make a longer cross country ride.

History & Background

This park is named after the Kensington Runestone and is located in Solem Township of Douglas County, Minnesota.

The Kensington Runestone is a 202-pound (92 kg) slab of greywacke covered in runes on its face and side. A Swedish immigrant, Olof Ohman, reported that he discovered it in 1898 in the largely rural township of Solem, Douglas County, Minnesota, and named it after the nearest settlement, Kensington.
