Family Friendly A well-maintained trail with easy access from parking. There are restrooms and swimming areas with lifeguards.

Need to Know

No water or food/beverages are available in park, so bring your own. Lake Minnewaska has a designated swimming area with lifeguard near the start of the trail. Bathrooms are located near the swimming area and in the lower parking lot.

Description

Starting at the upper parking lot, the trail is a bi-directional loop around Lake Minnewaska. The trail follows the cliff edge to the east, passing a kayak and diver trail, several gazebos on scenic overlooks of the lake, an old barn, and an overlook with a view towards New Paltz. It then descends to the water's edge at the south end of the lake before climbing several switchbacks away from the water. Along the west side of the lake, it passes several well-marked forks for trails to Gertrude's Nose, Millbrook, Hamilton Carriageway, and the exceedingly scenic Castle Point. You can also take these as a connector to Awosting Lake.
