Description

Lime Sink Trail passes beneath the pine/hardwood forest along a sandy (but mostly hard-packed) trail. There is plenty of shade and the ride was surprisingly refreshing on a day when it was 95 degrees Fahrenheit outside in the hot Georgia sunshine. The trail is quite easy with only a few roots in the trail bed that won't pose any difficulty for most riders. Watch for deer, foxes, raccoons, turkeys, and, of course, squirrels along the route.

The trail ends near the visitor center. The largest Civil War prison was built on this site because of the proximity to clean water offered by the springs. It's worth a visit (no bikes) to read the interpretive signs and visit the earthen fortifications that protected the artillery garrison that guarded the prison stockade.
