Description

This trail follows Barton Creek starting from the trailhead just off the Mopac expressway. The eastern side of the trail is somewhat easier than Barton Springs Creek Trail - West which you can reach at two points by fording Barton Creek. The tread ranges from easy hard-packed sections but there are some rocky and rooty areas, but overall, the biggest obstacle may be the high traffic of walkers and dogs (please share the trail). The trail ends at the aptly named Hill of Life. This is an extremely difficult, rocky climb with 6-12 inch stair steps. It is possible to ride both up and down with the right combination of line choice, strength, and finesse.

Barton Creek is a beautiful greenbelt not too far from downtown. There are two small waterfalls near this trail (Sculpture and Twin Falls), each with their own swimming hole. There are a lot of trees along the trail and together with shade from the cliff and the creek, this can be a cooler area to ride.

Barton Creek is a popular park with walkers so share the trail appropriately.

What a difference a couple of months of rain make. When I took my first photo here, a few months ago, the river bed was absolutely dry.

I was surprised to see how dry the creek was. A few weeks ago the water was gushing through here.

It doesn't matter how fast I think I'm going. Sometimes I like to stop to enjoy the view.
