Overview

This is the full route for the 2018 Big Woods Brown County Epic (Oct 12th-14th). This is not a race and most riders chose to cut off bonus loops to make for a shorter route. This allows everyone plenty of time to enjoy the sags, trails, and scenery. Completing the whole route in one day is very challenging.

Need to Know

DNR Trails (State Park and State Forest) require a DNR offroad cycling permit (may be purchased daily $5 or yearly $20). Permits are not covered by event. Hoosier National Forest require a separate National Forest permit. The National Forest permit is waved on Oct 13th for event participants.

All National Forest Trails (including Nebo Ridge) are open for horses. Most State Forest trails are open to horses. The 10 O'Clock Line trail in Brown County is open to horses. If you encounter equestrian riders, please stop and ask the rider for directions on how to pass. Positive interactions are key to the continued development of mountain bike trails.

Please ride with a group and be prepared. Hoosier National Forest and Yellowwood State Forest Trails are considered back country, meaning you'll be a long way from help and often out of cell phone range.

Description

The route uses the trails in the Brown County State Park (New for 2018 = Full Crooked Creek Loop), Yellowwood State Forest, and Hoosier National Forest. The trails in Brown County State Park are well know for being purpose built MTB trails with lots of flow. The trails in Yellowwood and Hoosier National Forest are more rugged, but reward riders with a real back country experience.

This Epic Ride is on Oct 13th and is part of the Big Woods Brown County Epic Mountain Bike Festival (Oct 12th-14th). Demos, new trails, mtb clinics, bands, and Big Woods Beer all combine to make for an unforgettable day!
