“A ridge to lake singletrack that begins under the spruce canopy and ends in the hardwoods at Shavers Lake.”
— Shane Bradley
Bike season is Memorial Day Weekend through the first of October. Check the website for updated lift and bike park hours of operations. Prior to starting your cross country ride stop by the Mountain Adventure Center in the village for trail updates and a backcountry hiking/biking map. This trail is multi-use, so you may encounter hikers.
To access Bail Out, use the Cheat Mountain Ridge Trail
. The trail starts on the left near the end of Cheat Mountain Ridge Trail
just prior to the fire tower. Bail Out is a flowing, fall line singletrack trail. As you descend, the canopy changes from a spruce forest to hardwoods. The trail tread contains a couple of short, flat rock gardens that will challenge your route selection and balance. Bail Out terminates on the Shavers Lake Trail
at the Shavers Lake dam. For the shortest distance to the Ballhooter Chairlift, make a right turn on Shavers Lake Trail
, for a little more mileage make a left turn heading upstream on Shavers Lake Trail
