Overview

Looking for a great 20-mile ride with lots of climbing, great descents, and awesome views? This ride will challenge the lungs and legs while giving fast, flowy descents.

Description

Park in town or at the Rec Center and make your way to Huron Road (CR 450) by the 7-Eleven. Ride up the road to the Lower Flume Trail on the left just past Huron Landing. Ride the Lower Flume Trail to Mike's Trail and hang a left onto Upper Flume Trail. Stay on Upper Flume Trail until the clearing and turn left onto Slalom. This is your first short but steep climb of the day.

At the top of Slalom, cross the road through the chicane and take the Western Sky Trail. This will dump you out onto a dirt road that soon merges into a paved road. Just south of the private road on the left, you hop back on Western Sky Trail as you continue south above the paved road. From here, you'll stay on Prospect Hill Road (GH38) for a while as you pass future massive home sites and begin climbing up the road through a recent clearcut. To stay off the road and on singletrack, consider the One Step Over Cabin Trail.

At the top of the road, make a right onto Side Door Trail at the chicane and enjoy the descent. At the bottom of Side Door Trail, hang a left onto Minnie Mine Trail for a short bit and then a quick right onto X10U8 trail and enjoy the descent (this can be easy to miss, but if you do you'll just end up on French Gulch Road).

Cross the road into the B&B Trail parking lot and time to start climbing again. Begin up B&B Trail past V3 Trail and hop onto Turks Trail. This is a fun and techy trail that gives you the challenge of being mostly uphill in this direction. As you exit the forest, you ride through a cool section of trail cut through the dredge rock as you come to Sally Barber Road. Turn right and climb the road up to the mine.

At the top, turn left onto Nightmare on Baldy Trail and start climbing again. After a bit, you'll run into True Romance Trail and hang a right down to Baldy Road. A right and a quick left through an FS gate put you onto "Crossing Route" Trail which is just a closed FS Road. Stay left on the road to stay above the cabins and then descend to the mine and hang left away from the cabins.

A little more time on the road puts you at Pinball Alley Trail to the right. Climb up and you'll arrive at Mountain Pride Trail. This is your high point for the day at a little over 11,000 feet. Now time for a 1,300 ft, 4.1-mile descent. Ride Mountain Pride Trail down to the Baker's Tank Trail that breaks off to the right. If you miss this turn, you'll descend all the way down to the actual Bakers Tank. This adds a little more mileage, and you have to climb back up, but is well worth the fun descent through the aspens in the fall.

Descend the rocky, root-filled Baker's Tank Trail down to the Baker's Tank Trail on Boreas Pass Road. Turn left on the road for a short distance and then a right drops you into Aspen Alley Trail. This is a fast, flowy descent through a huge aspen grove (unreal in the fall) and dumps you out at an old sawmill. Take a left on Boreas Pass Road and head back to town or hop onto the Illinois Creek for a little more mileage and singletrack which will dump you out at the Ice Rink.
