Overview
This great loop takes riders for a rolling climb that loops around the south side of Bradys Run Park. Mixed in with the ups are loads of fun downs dotted with typical western Pennsylvania roots and minimal technical areas. Although there's only roughly 120 feet of climbing per mile it can be tough, which is what makes Bradys Run what it is.
Need to Know
This clockwise loop can be started from the western parking lots up by the lake, or from the many parking lots down near the ice rink. Starting from the west allows for a doubletrack warm up before the main singletrack climb. Starting from the east allows you to alternatively use the doubletrack as a cool-down before getting back to the car, but you start with the main singletrack climb almost immediately out of the parking lot.
Description
Leaving the western parking lot, start east on the wide
South Drive Trail. This doubletrack rolls up and down and makes a great warm-up before reaching the singletrack ahead. At approximately 1.5 miles look for the start of
Brady's Run Trail South to make a hard cutoff on the right.
Head up this wider-than-usual singletrack for a long climb until you see a tee off to your left. Take this left turn onto steep singletrack until you cross over a paved park road. Continue straight across the road on the flowy singletrack until you can make the next left turn. Take the left and again continue until you take another left turn. You'll eventually end up at a major intersection where the
Monkey Loop Trail begins.
Follow the
Monkey Loop Trail (be very certain you do not take the hard left turn as you'll be going down a steep hill in error that isn't a blast to climb back up!) until you come to a tee, then turn left to continue on the Wildwood Loop Trail.
Head left at the next intersection which will soon take you over Beacom Drive (which is a gravel road where some locals park on occasion). Continue on
Hollywood Trail, which has a very fun downhill switch back section, then the climb back up to
Brady's Run Trail South.
Continue on
Brady's Run Trail South until you see the
Brady's Run Trail South - Eastern Switchbacks. Take the switchbacks down the hill instead of taking the direct route. Then you'll climb back up again on
Brady's Run Trail South until you see the
Brady's Run Trail South - Western Switchbacks. Take the switchbacks down the hill instead of taking the direct route.
Continue up the last climb on
Brady's Run Trail South until you reach the
Sketchy Bomber Downhill. Be warned, this is truly sketchy, hips back and be good at braking. If this sounds too extreme, continue down the wide
Brady's Run Trail South until you run into
South Drive Trail, turn left and you're back at the parking lot.
