This is a two-way trail. Pay attention for riders coming in the opposite direction, especially when climbing.

Description

Uktena starts about a quarter mile from the Oconaluftee Village Trailhead off of Tinker's Dream. It climbs sharply up to the top of Fire Mountain and intersects with both Waya and Fire Tower to end at the intersection with Kessel Run and Spearfinger. Uktena is the most technical trail Fire Mountain has to offer. It has a few short rocky and rooty sections, tons of switchback berms, and a few log skinnies along the way.
