“A mild climb from the velodrome back towards the trail network.”
— Andrew James
The most difficult part of the trail greets you almost immediately, where it goes through a dip with two options on the other side. The first option leads over some rocks with an unobstructed entry/exit. The second option is a smooth dirt trail, but the exit is through a narrow gap between two large rocks. Either way, once you're past that obstacle the rest of the climb is fairly straightforward. Some slight downhill sections let you rest you legs, but generally you'll be steadily going up.
When the trail ends, you should follow the sealed road uphill a short distance and ride the connector onto Mother In Law
to get to the ridge where most of the lower trails start. If you're a masochist, you can continue to follow the sealed road up to the top of the park.
