Description

This is a great way to connect Bracken to Pisgah trails without getting on paved roads. Follow Bracken Mountain Trail all the way to the top, and it will spit you out directly onto the doubletrack. It is super easy to follow the path all the way down where it shoots you right into the Fish Hatchery parking lot where you can fill up on water and take a bathroom break. From the Fish Hatchery, you can connect to a plethora of Pisgah trails off of the main road, FSR 475, including Daniel Ridge Trail. You can also connect to Cat Gap Loop (seasonal) and Butter Gap #25 without even crossing the parking lot.

There is some gradual up and down climbing throughout the entire 7 mile doubletrack. The climbing is steeper going from the direction of the Fish Hatchery to Bracken. From Bracken down to the Fish Hatchery, there's more descending. Plan at least 45 min-1 hour to connect to either side.

Nice tree cover throughout the entire doubletrack trail with just enough room for the sun rays to peek through. When the leaves fall off the trees, it looks like this trail would have some great views.
