A fun ride that is great for beginners. With singletrack, doubletrack, paved roads, and even a bike path there is a little bit of everything. The route starts out on an old railroad grade and crosses 3 old mining sites! The grade is not too steep but climbs for 3 miles. Eventually it connects to a doubletrack jeep road then the paved road Guenella Pass Rd. Cruise into Georgetown and enjoy one of the towns many establishments (brewery, ice cream shops, and restaurants). From Georgetown, make your way back up to Silver Plume via the paved Silver Plume to Georgetown express bike path. The bike path passes right by the Georgetown loop railroad. If you want to avoid that last 2.4mi and 500' of climbing take the historic and scenic railroad back to Silver Plume!
Start your ride at the Argentine Central Railroad Grade
trail. The trail starts at a closed gate to keep vehicles off. There are many off shoot trails on the climb up but the trail is clearly marked with signs. You'll pass by a few old mining sites along the way and most likely will hear the train whistle of the Georgetown loop railroad. Climb for 3 miles until you reach Pavilion point. At Pavilion point you'll see the remnants of an old chimney. There are also some fantastic views of Silver Plume and the Georgetown loop railroad.
From Pavilion Point the road now becomes a doubletrack jeep trail. Continue down the road 0.8 miles until you run into Leavenworth Creek Rd. Turn left (downhill) on Leavenworth Creek Rd. This will be the “chunkiest” section of the whole ride. Continue down Leavenworth Rd for 1.2mi until you hit Guanella Pass Rd.
Turn Left (downhill) onto Guanella Pass Rd and continue for 2.4 miles. Turn right onto Rose Street and head to the town center of Georgetown for 0.2mi. Turn left onto 6th St for 0.2 miles and continue onto Loop drive for 0.5 miles. You'll continue past the Georgetown loop rail road station and link up with the Silver Plume to Georgetown express bike path in the back of the Georgetown loop railroad parking lot.
Take the Silver Plume to Georgetown express bike path until it ends at the Silver Plume frontage road (2mi). Take the frontage road back to the TH (0.4mi).
