Starting from the gravel Moke Lake Road, the Moke Lake Track circumnavigates Moke Lake (1,800 ft) in a remote valley not too far from Queenstown. Moke Lake is surrounded by mountains with Mount Crichton (6,135 ft) and Mount Hanley (5,348 ft) to the west, Ben More Peak (6,043 ft) to the north, and Ben Lomond Peak (5,735 ft) to the east.

From Moke Lake Road, an initial short but difficult climb takes you 200 ft above the lake where you'll ride a ribbon of singletrack that contours along a peninsula jutting into the lake. From this vantage point, you'll have a great view of Moke Creek as it meanders back into the valley behind Ben Lomond Peak.

Once you reach the apex of the peninsula, the trail turns back towards the south and you'll enjoy a descent to the lake level. After crossing a short boardwalk, which protects some wetland, the trail reaches a "T" intersection. The Moke Creek Loop continues to the right as a narrow singletrack along the western edge of the lake. (Turning left takes you on the Lake Dispute Track to Lake Dispute.)

Around 2.67 miles, you'll cross a bridge over Moke Creek. There is a car park and campsite on the other side. At the end of the access road for the trailhead, a right on the gravel Moke Creek Road completes the loop. Ben Lemond Station Road to the north takes you on the Moonlight Sonata around Ben Lomond Peak the long way back to Queenstown.

This track has little forest cover, so be prepared for some sunshine during the summer!
