Description

You'll have to access this loop around the peak of Monte Calamita from the town of Capoliveri. There are some steep roads that access the town directly, but consider taking the easier Monte Calamita Sud forest road as part of the Giro del Monte Calamita (Circumnavigation of Calamita Mountain) loop.

This is a gravel/dirt forest road that climbs gently to/from the peak on Monte Calamita starting and ending at the 4-way intersection with Monte Calamita Sud and Buzzancone. Much of the route is through the piney forest on top of the mountain, so you'll have some shade. The best views are from the western reaches of the trail where the forest opens and you can see the the southern coast of Elba, the Tyrrhenian Sea with, and (on a clear day) Corsica in the distance.

There are several more difficult singletracks that start along this road and head down towards the coast, but you'll want an all mountain or downhill rig (and consider bringing armor). One exception is the more tame Monte Calamita Singletrack up on the crown of Monte Calamita.
