Description

This is one of the highlight segments of the Dorsale del Triangolo Lario (Crest of the Lario Triangle Peninsula). From the junction with the DTL: Brunate to Monte Boletto mulattiera (Mule Path) and Monte Boletto Sud (Monte Boletto South), this singletrack runs just to the north of Monte Boletto and just below or at times along the ridge of the Dorsale (Crest).

The singletrack is particularly narrow in parts and it runs through a dense forest canopy. Presumably the forest is comprised of beech trees based on the trail name, but I'm not an arborist so you'll have to investigate for yourself.

There are a number of root-strewn obstacles to surmount, but nothing too difficult. Segments of the trail have a pretty good cross slope such that a fall could have some consequences, but not catastrophically so and anyways the trees will probably break your fall.

Overall this is a fun, challenging singletrack and you can enjoy the trail features. One feature that is missing from this trail is a significant change in elevation. This will probably be welcome though so that you can concentrate on the trail features and because regardless of whether you access this singletrack from the west or the east, there is a significant climb to get to it.

In a few places, the forest canopy breaks up just enough to get a pretty awesome panorama of Lago di Como approximately 900 m (3000 ft) below. A particularly good viewpoint is at the 0.9-mile mark. The eastern end of the trail intersects the DTL: Mulatteria Alta (High Mulepath).

Because much of the route is north-facing through a dense forest, you may expect to find it impassable due to snow (e.g. in April) when the unforested south face is snow free.
