A popular, technical downhill trail.

Bryan Sell

Overview

This is an informal and unmarked, yet legal, trail within Michaux State Forest. This trail, and others that are nearby, are currently under assessment by the land manager toward a more static and stewarded trail system. Cutting a new trail or re-routing is considered illegal. As such, do not cut new trails without approval, observe potential future trail closings and official re-routing, and minimize your impact while riding. Avoid riding during PA hunting seasons.

Description [Suggest Changes]

The trail begins off of Cold Springs Road and circles a knob via relatively obstacle-free, easy/intermediate trail. However, after rounding the knob, the terrain changes very quickly to double black diamond terrain. There are many boulders, drops, step-ups, rock gardens, and knife edges to clear. There are also many connector trails and alternate routes for true downhill, enduro, and aggressive cross-country rides. It is easy to get off track, so pay attention.

The trail is rated as a double black diamond because of steep grades and large obstacles. The southern end of this trail is located off of a doubletrack, Mountain Creek Road.

This really is Michaux's diamond in the rough. While many of the state forest's trails are undulating, brutally rocky, and slower, Vista is an all-out descent. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of rocks on this trail! However they are bigger boulders that you get huck, send and smash. Speaking of smashing, there are several natural berms along the trail. Still my favorite trail in Michaux that is off the beaten path. Great mix of fast carving, technical decents and smooth dirt riding. Great trail to end the day with. May 29, 2018
