Description

This is a more rugged trail through the cedar scrub that is more difficult than you might expect based on the distance and elevation change. It has a different character than the easy trails through the pasture to the east of the Park Road or the difficult, rocky trails northwest of the visitor center.

From the Heritage Loop #8a, it starts as an earthen doubletrack, climbing about 0.6 miles until you reach a building. The doubletrack becomes increasingly primitive and rocky as you approach and pass this building. Shortly after the building, the trail makes a 90-degree turn to the left. This section of the trail until another 90-degree left turn at the 1.4-mile mark is particularly rugged and you can expect to dodge a lot of rocks in the trail.

You'll find another building and water tower at this second 90-degree turn. After this point, the doubletrack becomes easier with a stone base until the end of the trail at the intersection with Davenport Ranch Road.
