Overview

A new option for the 12 Hours in the Wild West race event. This six-hour option follows the inner loop at Grindstone Lake and bypasses some of the more technical sections and climbing afforded by the traditional 12-hour race loop.

Need to Know

The 6 and 12 hour loops have different start and stop times. See the Zia rides website for details.

Description

This loop begins the same as the 12-hour loop off of Resort Drive near the stables at the base of the dam. Take the trail up to the main trailhead and parking area near the lake and access the singletrack. Follow the Grindstone Lake Trail until you complete the loop at the start/finish line.

Make sure you continue on Grindstone Lake Trail at the Alfred Hale Connector instead of taking the connector over to the longer and more technical 12-hour race loop.

The shorter lap was fun, but keep in mind it just puts you back on the starting climb again sooner. Trail is scenic and lots of fun. Apr 28, 2017
