Update

A short trail, great for a quick ride, but nothing fancy.

Description

This is only one portion of the trail system. There is another loop to the east of the Central Loop with a couple more miles of trail, but I did not map it. This trail seems to be less used than other trails, likely because there is much better biking south of Asheville. This trail is located next to a landfill.

When you arrive at the trailhead, there is parking on both sides of the street. The trail begins on the side opposite of the river. You'll pedal up to a sign about 50 yards into the woods that has a map.

The riding is pretty straight forward, mostly smooth singletrack with some nice views of the French Broad River. There are some punchy, short climbs that might hurt a bit, but nothing sustained. There are one or two short portions a beginner might want to walk.

I would recommend this trail and area if you are looking for a quick ride, probably an hour or less, or need a place to introduce a beginner to mountain biking.

Getting forecast...

Add the other loop to this to make a nice circuit. Some fun ups and downs. You can also go across the road beside the river to the river park and add another mile or so one way for a good little riverside ride and to let the dogs jump in the water. Feb 6, 2017
