Cobbles Trail is definitely one of the favorites among the locals. This trail begins atop Del Mar Mesa Preserve near Appendix Trail. Both trails share the same trailhead.

It begins with a flat step off onto singletrack and descends on a gradual slope of cobbles. It is easy to pick your line between the cobbles. The trail slope gradually increases as you come to the section of whoops, originally intended for water runoff. The whoops are about 15 yards apart which is perfect for "catching air!"

After the whoops section, the trail descends on a greater slope with twists and turns through brush and trees. After passing Queens Trail, near the bottom, there is a 10-foot step-up. Immediately after the step-up is a 10-yard flat area and then a small pyramid-like jump with the other side descending to a much lower elevation.

Continuing along the singletrack, the slope begins to decrease with a final 12-foot step-up and into Penasquitos Canyon. On weekends, this trail can be busy with hikers and the occasional horseback rider.
