The trail starts at Inspiration Pass near the intersection with Alpine #7 and Napa Lookout #31 and drops slightly to the west above the Soup Creek drainage. From there it heads north and then descends into the head of the South Fork Lost Creek drainage.

The steady downhill continues through a mix of open meadows and forest. About 4 miles nto the route, you'll encounter a long section of scree and rock and may need to do some wayfinding to continue the route.

Once you're past that section, continue down the valley. It becomes more narrow as you approach the end of the trail at Lost Creek Road.
