An amazing climb up into the pines, past the Memorial, both lakes and topping out at senator highway.

Bert Jones

Overview

This is a really fun climb up through the mountains past some amazing scenery. The manageable climbs are long and steady, but there are a few rocky sections where you may chose to push for 15 feet or so. After you finish the first climb, you drop onto a fun little downhill into the lakes area. The scenery is amazing as you fly through the cool pines that surround Upper and Lower Goldwater Lakes.
Family Friendly: Very easy to navigate and a great payoff for the kids with the lakes. You could bike or hike up to the lakes and make a day of it.
Dogs: Leashed

Need to Know

Please try to avoid muddy areas as they rut the trail and that's not good for anybody.

Description

After you finish the first climb, you drop onto a fun little downhill into the lakes area. The scenery is amazing as you fly through the cool pines that surround Upper and Lower Goldwater Lakes.

From there you begin your final ascent on a fun little singletrack with several banked turns and seasonal streams. Eventually, you'll turn onto Feldmeier Trail #330 which will take you up to the parking lot.

You can do this ride in several different ways. You can ride up, then turn around and enjoy some fantastic downhill that is not too crazy, and a couple of climbs that are very steep but not too long (remember the fun little downhill from before?) You can also start at the top and shuttle run from the parking lot to white spar.

All in all, it's a great ride for experienced beginners on up, though bringing a true beginner wouldn't be recommended. A decent bike is definitely a plus, as are knobby tires.

History & Background

At the top of your first climb from White Spar campground you'll see a little alcove in the vegitation where a memorial for the fallen 19 Yarnell Firefighters. It is well worth a pause, a photo or a prayer.
