Overview

The Bloomer Park Loop is a fun mixture of technical singletrack and flowing singletrack with a section of old railroad bed to link the singletrack together.

Description

Starting at the trailhead from Intersection Marker 1, the first section is fast singletrack. At Intersection Marker 6 you get to the first downhill down the ridgeline then after a short section you head back up the same ridge, along the way up there are some tricky root steps.

Mile 1.6 is the tech loop, you can bypass this by going left, or hit the loop by continuing over the log pile. The tech loop has several log piles, a stream crossing, and a log ride for you to enjoy.

The next section at mile 2 is Art's Lungbuster, you actually have already been climbing when you get to this section, then the lungbuster goes up and down the same elevation several times before exiting right below the Velodrome.

After you finish the lungbuster, the next section is the upper ridge, you hit this around mile 2.5. The upper ridge is a narrow bench cut on the side of the ridge, there are several steep uphills in this section, there is also an easier bypass on doubletrack for those that are not comfortable with the exposure.

Mile 2.5/Intersection Marker 15 brings one of the main features of the trail, the Big Switchbacks. These are a series of switchbacks with banked turns that make their way down the ridge in a valley. The bottom of this leads to the lower ridge trail, this is bench cut but far lower down the ridge.

At the end of the lower ridge, make a 180° turn on the doubletrack at Intersection Marker 16. There is a choice at Intersection Marker 17, either turn right and continue the loop, or go straight for the technical stair climb at Intersection Marker 18.

If you go towards the stair climb at Intersection Marker 18, veer left just past the railing at the bottom of the stairs and follow the singletrack then the wider trail around and over roots and steps. There is a yellow marker for the return singletrack that leads back to where the climb started (you can also ride to the top of the hill then hit the singletrack on the way down). Once down, make a right to get back to the doubletrack over to Intersection Marker 17.

From there, go north over the old Clinton-Kalamazoo bridge and then right on the old railroad grade. Follow this over to Intersection Marker 21, then past Intersection Marker 22 where the singletrack picks back up to the right at a yellow marker. Once on the singletrack, follow the markers and arrows to the doubletrack around the cricket field and back to Intersection Marker 1.
